The Prescott Arizona Rodeo
The rodeo originated from the exercise of sixteenth century Spaniards and their Mexican farm hands, Vaqueros, mixing cattle disputes and bull fighting into a sporting contest. These events accumulated major popularity in New Spain and might be found at fairgrounds and racetracks throughout the area. The first professional rodeo competition in the US occurred in Prescott, Arizona on July 4, 1888. Several local business men offered money awards for the winners of the cowboy competition’.
